Powerbait Crappie Nibbles Review

Despite having crappie in the name Powerbait Crappie Nibbles are actually a good universal bait. You can expect to be able to catch most freshwater species with this bait. That being said, the bait is best suited for targeting panfish and is small enough to fit in the mouths of small mouthed fish like bluegill.

The nibbles can be described as a marshmallow / dough bait hybrid. They are 0.5cm extruded cylinders of a dough-like substance. While you can reform the dough with your fingers, it doesn't stick to the hook as well and as a best practice, avoid playing with the bait too much. Just impaling it a single time on a hook is sufficient to rig it.

The bait has no inherent action to it, so it's up to you how you want to fish it. It is versatile in that you can jig it, put it as a micro trailer on a lure, rig it under a bobber, rig it on a sinking rig, or just let it soak. An important thing to note is that the bait slowly dissolves into a mush. Berkley claims this is to "disperse [a] scent cloud crappies and panfish can’t resist". While I am not too sure about that whole scent cloud claim, the bait is as effective as other Powerbait and Gulp! products. I would also argue that the color really doesn't matter for this bait. What is attracting to the fish is the scent and any action you are giving it.

  • Very light bait and will require additional weight on the rig to cast.
