Trout Magnet Spin Review

The Trout Magnet Spin is an inline spinner in the ultralight weight class. There are smaller spinners out there for the super shallow creeks and heavier spinners for fishing lakes and proper rivers. This sits in the middle as a good creek and pond lure that's also suitable for small rivers and small lakes. It is a fantastic multispecies lure that just about anything with a big enough mouth will hit. That includes bass, large sunfish, trout, large creek chubs, crappie, pickerel, and many more.

The length of the entire lure from line tie to plastic tip is about 3 inches. The overall weight is about 2.45 grams or 0.086 ounces. This places it in between 1/16 and 1/8 ounce lure weight classes. The plastic trailer is a standard trout magnet plastic with no modifications. Instead of having a 90 degree jig hook it has a straight hook. The lead head is the same as a standard trout magnet. The hook is a size 6 hook (same as the 1/32 oz crappie magnet jig) but is modified with an oversized straight eye. The trailer is attached via a clip mechanism instead of being permanently attached so it is removable. The wire shaft has four 1/8 inch diameter metal beads. It has an in-line style spinner blade which is about 7/16 inches at its widest and about 22 mm long (~ 0.9 inches long).

This spinner outperforms its price tag by a lot. It reliably spins, unlike other dirt cheap spinners. One of the additional strengths of this lure is that you can throw it with confidence knowing losing it to snag won't set your wallet back.

Pros:
  • Single hook for cleaner hooking and releasing of fish.
  • You can swap out the trailer.
  • Cheapest reliable spinner we know of at Fiscian.

Cons:
  • Larger hook gape (size 6) may miss some fish vs tiny trebled spinners.

Buying Guide

Note this spinner is erroneously listed as 1/64 oz on store pages, there is only one SKU of this spinner that is as described above. The color option differences are just the trailer, you can also replace it with any other trout magnet body you have.
