The great thing about fishing is, that a beginner can catch a fish their first time out for most types of fishing. There is no wrong type of fishing for a beginner, some types might just be easier or harder depending on their specific situation.
A beginner should probably stay away from any fishing that involves long boat rides. This is because of possible seasickness, motion sickness, claustrophobia, and just generally being stuck an entire day in a situation you can't escape. That doesn't mean you can't boat fish your first time out, there are charter and party boat options that only last a few hours in relatively calm waters.
A beginner should also probably avoid any types of fishing styles that involve higher than normal physical risk. This would include fishing from cliffs, jetty rocks, or wading swift rivers. As a total beginner you have a lot to learn about fishing and handling physical dangers can wait until you have some more experience under your belt.
Another thing to consider is if you will be taking yourself fishing or having someone guide you (a friend or paid service). If someone is guiding you then you can take on most types of fishing and just follow their lead. If you are taking yourself out your best bet is to fish at a place where fish are abundant (and not worry about catching a trophy sized fish). This can include a wide variety of places like ponds, lakes, streams, docks, piers, or beaches.
