Inline Spinners

Inline spinners (sometimes also spelled in-line spinner or in line spinner) is a widely used industry term for this style of spinning lure. Unfortunately, not the best choice of name because:

  1. This inline configuration is among the earliest for spoons and spinners, so why qualify as inline?
  2. It is not a reference to the style of blade, may or may not have an inline blade.

Inline spinners typically have these features:

  1. Straight wire / shaft starting from the line tie down to the hook.
  2. Intended to be cast (as opposed to trolling spinners)

Inline spinners' history largely coincides with the mass introduction of spinning reels in the USA. The Rooster Tail has its origins in the late 1940s and was very popular by the 1960s. Mepps spinners were being imported by the 1950s and also very popular by the 1960s. Panther Martin spinners were another import with a similar timeline.
