Tube Baits

different tube baits on table

Canyon Plastics (Gary and Bobby Garland) was the first to come out with a soft plastic tube bait in 1973. In 1973, the "mini jig" was released, which was a small tube bait. In 1978, the "Gitzit" was released, which was your more typical largemouth bass sized soft plastic. Shortly after the Gitzit was released the "Giant Tora" came out, which was even bigger, geared towards saltwater fish.

Key characteristics of a tube bait are a hollow body with tentacles. (although in the modern era, solid body tubes exist) Traditionally rigged on a jighead. Largemouth bass anglers also experiment with rigging as they would other soft plastics (e.g. texas or carolina rig). The tube bait scales in size from panfish all the way to giant saltwater game fish.
